Two members of one-time speed-grass sensation Honky Suckle—Eric Howell (guitar) and Adam Howell (drums)—joined Muzzle bassist Michael Holmes to form rock trio Smoke Sermons. The debut EP release is lo-fi punk: loud, driving and rough around the edges. The vocals, swimming in delay effects over uncompromising guitar crunch, surely carry doses of social commentary. More than two dedicated listens may be necessary to uncover lyrical content, depending on the user. Just when you think the tempo can’t be pushed any further, the closing track slams into gear. Smoke Sermons’ EP is available online.
