The debut EP from Minneapolis alt-rock quartet The Social Animals is six cuts of straight-forward rock teeming with sing-them-back pop melodies. With a perfect dash of natural tremolo, singer Dedric Clark’s vocal presence is captivating. He soars to upper registers during ballad “Cold.” “Knock Me Out” is the surefire single, but you could throw a dart at the track-list blindfolded to find a crowd pleaser. Formative Years doesn’t lack vocal harmonies and guitar solos; each song receiving thoughtful—and full—arrangement. The Social Animals makes its Springfield debut at Patton Alley Pub Saturday, January 7 at 9:30 p.m. Formative Years is available on most digital outlets and on flash drive.
