Between fall festivals, pumpkin patches, corn mazes, seasonal menus and so much more, fall is one of our favorite seasons. Jefferson City is less than three hours away from Springfield and makes the perfect weekend trip—or even day trip—to do all the fun fall things. Add these items to your checklist this season.
Fischer Farms Pumpkin Patch & Corn Maze is a classic spot for families, with a corn maze, straw maze, hayrides, corn boxes, swings, hay bales and animals. There, you can pick the perfect pumpkin to take home, carve and display on your porch all season long.

Rhymers Ridge also has family-friendly pumpkin patch fun, with unicorn rides, peacocks, goats, donkeys, calves and sheep. This family-owned and operated pumpkin patch and fall festival takes place on a working cattle farm, where hayrides run continuously throughout the festival grounds.

You may have toured the Missouri State Penitentiary before, but have you explored its museum? Complementing the penitentiary tours, the museum dives deeper into the prison’s 168-year history. Inside, you’ll find original memorabilia, artifacts and even a replica cell that offers a glimpse into what life was like behind bars.
Location: You’ll find the museum in the lower level of the Col. Darwin W. Marmaduke House, 700 E. Capitol Avenue, Jefferson City, MO.
Cost: Admission is just $2 per person, and free if you’ve already booked a tour.
The Show Me State Air Show brings excitement to Central Missouri while honoring current and former military members. The event connects the community, offers hands-on STEM experiences and showcases aviation and the organizations that keep it soaring in the Show Me State.
When: September 13–14
Location: 500 Airport Rd., Jefferson City, MO
Cost: Admission is $10 per person, $5 for children ages 5–10 and free for ages 4 and under.
Jefferson City’s Oktoberfest, hosted by the Old Munichburg Association, fills the streets with craft and food vendors, live main-stage entertainment, the Muenchberg Beer and Wine Garden, a Kids’ Corner, the ever-popular Dachshund Derby and costume contest, the Mid-Mo Old Car Club show and plenty more to explore.

Porchfest JCMO is a free, family-friendly celebration of music and community. Local musicians transform neighborhood porches into lively stages, carrying through the streets with performances that bring neighbors together. Alongside the concerts, you’ll find live art and hands-on crafts for all ages, making it a true fall gathering for everyone to enjoy.
