This quiet neighborhood that’s rich in mature trees, blooming shrubs and craftsman bungalows is inarguably one of the most picturesque places to work up an appetite with a stroll. And when hunger does come calling, the intersection of Pickwick Avenue and Cherry Street is where you want to be (especially when it’s patio weather).

Good Spirits & Company Headquarters

1424 E. Cherry St., Ste. A
Good Spirits & Company uses its headquarters as an office by day and a pop-up bar by night. The limited-run menus feature imaginative drinks and bites with seasonal ingredients.
Must-Attend Pop-Up: Sunday Supper Club

Tea Bar & Bites

621 S. Pickwick Ave.
There’s nothing like dining al fresco in the gorgeous courtyard here. Our favorite spot is right by the fountain. The menu features classic tearoom fare, including quiche and sandwiches accompanied by excellent sides, as well as dozens of loose-leaf teas. It’s now also the home of Prairie Pie, so don’t skip dessert.
Must-Try Dish: The curry chicken salad sandwich with a slice of blueberry pie

Cherry Picker Package & Fare

601 S. Pickwick Ave.
How many concepts can you fit into one little pint-sized building? Cherry Picker Package & Fare is a neighborhood bar, coffee shop, lunch counter and package store all in one.
Must-Try Dish: To Brie or Not to Brie

La Mère Bakery

1458 E. Cherry St.
There’s nothing like the heavenly scent of baked bread that wafts from the pickup window at La Mère Bakery. Sourdough loaves dominate the menu, but don’t sleep on the Askinosie Cookie or house granola.
Must-Try Loaf: Pain au Levain

Pickwick & Cherry

607 S. Pickwick Ave., Ste. B
Tucked behind Culture Flock, this microbakery is the true definition of a hidden gem. Owner Katie Kring offers cooking classes here, and she often has to stand outside to guide newcomers to the door. She’s also known to whip up some delicious seasonal baked goods on a pop-up basis.
Must-Try Class: The Italian Date Night Cooking Experience

Team Taco

1454 E. Cherry St.
Even though Team Taco just has a small walk-up window, it’s hard to miss this cherry red building on Cherry Street. Linger for a while on the shaded patio, and order a margarita to go with your tacos, nachos or rice bowl.
Must-Try Dish: Average Joe (ordered as nachos).

Buttermilk

1458 E. Cherry St.
Buttermilk is the new kid on the block and is doing the hard work of filling the made-from-scratch ice cream void in the neighborhood. Ice cream is a Rountree luxury we’ve all grown accustomed to ever since the now-shuttered Elle’s Patisserie brought it our way.
Must-Try Flavor: The Buttermilk ice cream

Sleepy Opossum Cafe

1423 E. Cherry St., Ste. 101
Sleepy Opossum is another eatery in Rountree with a well-decorated interior, and the vintage tchotchkes on display are perfect I Spy material for passing time with your littles. Come expecting creative flavor combos, and don’t be surprised if there’s a little wasabi in your walnut pesto.
Must-Try Dish: Cottage House hashbrown bowl

The Royal

1427 E. Cherry St., Ste. B
The crew at The Royal crafts every cocktail with care. This utmost attention to detail is also reflected in everything from the vintage servingware to the charming atmosphere, complete with a massive Louis XVI mirror that once hung in the locally famed Riverside Inn.
Must-Try Drink: Strawberry Lillet Spritz

Skully’s

1427 E. Cherry St., Ste. A.
Formerly a food truck, Skully’s originally won us all over with its stellar ramen. Now, they also dole out wok bowls, bánh mì sandwiches and wings.
Must-Try Dish: Lemongrass beef bánh mì

Tie & Timber Beer Co.

1451 E. Cherry St.

It’s pretty much always a lively evening at this taproom and beer garden. Tie & Timber also has a 10,000-square-foot two-story expansion (complete with a kitchen and outdoor patio) in the works, so expect even more seating and food offerings coming soon.
Must-Try Beer: Juicy Brewski
