In March 2016, local songwriter Brett Miller (Brother Wiley) organized the second-ever edition of Cover Me, Springfield—an opportunity for local artists to pay homage to other songwriters. Lindberg’s Tavern hosted 20 such songwriters covering material from popular bands like Big Smith, The HillBenders, Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin, Honky Tonk Chateau and solo players alike including Grammy-nominated Johnny Mullins. Some played the tunes straight, while others added unique twists. Many of the players were present in the packed club, and emotions run high even in the digital recording, with crowd-noise providing an ambient background. Stream it here.
