If going on vacation is slightly marred by the fact you have to leave your pooch at home, then take them along. There are several dog-friendly cities that you can reach in three hours or less. Pet-friendly establishments are on the rise. From beautiful trails to fine dining and gorgeous hotels, here are spots where Fido is welcome.

Tulsa

Dine with Your Dog: Doc’s Wine & Food offers Creole cuisine and fresh seafood. The charbroiled oysters are delicious, and there’s an array of salads, weekend brunch options, great wine list and more. Sip mimosas on the patio with your favorite canine.

Play with Your Pup: The Gathering Place is Tulsa’s riverfront park, and it was voted one of the best in the nation. Dogs are allowed on a leash on the paths. Your kids will go nuts on the playgrounds. It’s a huge complex with concerts, events and more. A perfect spot to walk off some energy.

Bentonville

Dine with Your Dog: The city’s first craft brewery, Bike Rack Brewing Co. has great beer, live music and a bustling patio, and it’s very dog friendly.

Play with Your Pup: Bentonville is known as an outdoorsy city so there’s no shortage of trails. We have a soft spot for the art trail at Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art because sculptures and art dot the forest; there are a variety of trails on the property. Osage Park is another treasure with meandering paths over wetlands and a 2-acre off-leash fenced-in park.

Kansas City

Dine with Your Dog: Looking for something upscale? Blue Bird Bistro offers breakfast, lunch and dinner and sources from many regional farms. Enjoy everything from eggs Benedict to ribeye or bison burgers. Dogs are allowed on the patio.

Play with Your Pup: Bar K is a dog park, restaurant, bar and event space. To bring your dog you must either be a member or purchase a guest pass. Passes range from $10–15 for your first dog, plus $5 for each additional dog. Let pups play while you enjoy a meal, or keep them beside you on a leash on the patio. They even have a menu for dogs
