Team Taco is Growing

Times are tough out there for local restaurants, but we’ve seen so much creativity come out of the dining community this spring as they learn to navigate business during COVID-19. Team Taco is one of the spots that opted to temporarily close during the stay-at-home order, but they’ve been busy behind the scenes using this downtime to begin a project that will leave them ready to accept even more customers when this is all over. Currently, the Team Taco crew is hard at work an expansion that will include a large covered patio for outdoor taco lunches and margarita happy hours. Team Taco shared a rendering of the project on Facebook last week and said the expansion was part of the plan since Day 1—and now it’s under construction. We cannot wait to try it out!

Worldwide Support

Mother’s Brewing Company has been active since Day 1 working hard to support local breweries and hospitality industry workers during the COVID-19 outbreak by establishing the Mother’s Industry Support Fund through Community Foundation of the Ozarks. The fund raises money for people in the hospitality industry who are now out of work. Last week, the brewery announced that it would also be joining a worldwide beer collaboration to further benefit that fund. All Together is a west coast IPA whose recipe base was developed by New York–based Other Half Brewing with labels designed by Chicago-based Stout Collective. The beer is being produced by breweries across the globe in an organized push for solidarity. Here in 417-land, part of the proceeds from sales of All Together will benefit the Mother’s Industry Support Fund. Expect to see the brew available in May.

Put That Oven to Good Use

We’ve already told you about the beautiful baking kits you can purchase from European Cafe (they’ve offered rugelach, gluten-free chocolate cake, toaster pastries and more), but now Prairie Pie is getting in on the baking kit action. You can order everything you need to bake one of Prairie Pie’s signature recipes: caramel apple pie, made with tart Granny Smith apples and homemade caramel sauce.

Ooey Gooey Photo Op

Garbo’s Pizzeria is that latest local spot to get its own set of butterfly wings from Springfield artist Andrea Ehrhardt—and these ones are pizza-themed! They have a doughy crust, dripping cheese and some classic toppings (pepperoni, of course!). They’re Instagram-ready, so nab a to-go order from Garbo’s and stop for a photo op while you’re there.

It Just Keeps Getting Better

The Milk and Honey dessert from Progress has been a staple on the menu since the spot first opened in Farmers Park. Its honey semifreddo and milk jam sound so simple but are somehow mindblowingly delicious. When the restaurant released its winter menu, the crumble on top of the dish changed up to add a sesame twist, and last week the dish got an even bigger facelift with a new version that highlights espresso and hazelnut flavors. It has an espresso semifreddo, hazelnut crumble and dark chocolate cremeux. (Oh. My. God!) They call it the “caffeinated cousin to our classic milk and honey.”
