In terms of local agritourism, we can name several hospitable farms around southwest Missouri that welcome guests with events and farm tours. It’s hard not to leave one of these experiences without a greater appreciation for the farmers who feed us, and Stewart Farm CO-OP’s Supper Club is no exception. The family-friendly event takes place on the second Saturday of each month through the growing season and features a farm tour, live music and, best of all, a meal highlighting ingredients grown and raised right on the property and other nearby farms. These meals exemplify the farm’s commitment to sustainability and educating the community on how to create less kitchen waste. “We are all about being ethical eaters,” says owner Lacy Stewart. “That applies to how our livestock is raised, but it also applies to eating nose to tail and not wasting parts just because they aren’t popular or supreme cuts.” The meals also feature the farm’s fresh herbs, greens, fruits and vegetables, particularly the ones with visual blemishes that might not sell well otherwise. You never know what type of food to expect at Supper Club, but past greatest hits have included pork chorizo smash tacos, black and blue sliders made with grass-fed beef and Thai chicken sliders with peanut sauce and veggie fried rice. Tickets are available at stewartfarmsco-op.com and are a steal of a deal at $18 for adults and $9 for kids.
