Behind the Design

It’s officially summer, and I’m grabbing up all the gingham, denim and summer sweets I can get my hands on, celebrating the best place to spend your summers: your backyard!

As 417 Magazine’s Creative Director, I pull inspiration from all over. Design is a passion of mine, and when I’m out scouting products to feature in the magazine, I run across items I just have to share with our readers. It’s officially summer, and I’m grabbing up all the gingham, denim and summer sweets I can get my hands on, celebrating the best place to spend your summers: your backyard!

1. Follow Along

When I happened across this little gem of a book, How to be a Wildflower ($12.99 at The Market), I had to have it. It’s a field guide that takes you on a summer journey and is illustrated perfectly.

2. Tea Time

I’m obsessed with this strawberry basil tea from The Republic of Tea ($9.99 at Brown Derby International Wine Center). The bags are extra-large, so one bag can make a whole pitcher. Garnish with a strawberry and sprig of mint to impress any guest.

3.Gingham Trend

Jump on the gingham bandwagon with this simple gingham dress ($48 at STAXX). The shop has several gingham styles to choose from, so grab one up before they go!

4. Daisy Dukes

Okay, so these are not quite Daisy Dukes, but they’re so much better. These denim short overalls by The Jet Set Diaries ($239 at Harem & Company) are actually very flattering and would look adorable with a simple white tee.
