Fire & Ice’s New Chef

There’s a new chef at the helm at Fire & Ice Restaurant and Bar, the eatery located inside Oasis Hotel & Convention Center. With almost 30 years of culinary experience in the Las Vegas dining scene, including time working at Caesar’s Palace, Chef Ward Daughters graduated from the Culinary Institute of America in 1984 and is originally from Missouri. So, Chef Daughters, what’s on the menu? We can’t wait to see what he brings to the table.

Billy Neck Gets a Brick and Mortar

Fans of Billy Neck Food Station’s cheesy-sandwich-slinging food truck will be excited to learn their favorite mobile eatery now has a brick-and-mortar location on East Walnut Street in downtown Springfield. The spot serves wild takes on grilled cheese with equally wild names, like the Bacon Jalapeno Stinger with caramelized bacon and jalapenos, cheddar cheese, Mad sauce and seasoning.

Banana Cake Anytime

One of my favorite desserts—ever, in the history of great desserts—is the dense, luscious, way-too-indulgent banana cake from St. Michael’s Restaurant and Catering. It has a banana-heavy cake that feels more like banana bread as you eat it, and the cream cheese frosting is plate-licking good. In the past, it was my last taste after a salad lunch at St. Michael’s, but now I can get my favorite cake by the slice at Price Cutter on East Battlefield Road in Springfield, which means grocery shopping just got a lot sweeter. You can still get slices of the cake at the restaurant too, or pre-order a full cake.

Go Gluten-Free at Nonna’s

Nonna’s Italian Café just released a full gluten-free menu, separate from the restaurant’s regular menu and offering a full range of apps, entrees, pasta dishes and desserts that are gluten-free. There are six types of risotto, 12 pasta dishes and lots more. I’m making plans to take my gluten-avoiding mom there for a plate of pistachio cream ravioli and a chocolate torte for dessert.
