If you’re bored with your regular snack rotation, we have a suggestion. La Tropical Snacks (1838 N. Glenstone Ave., Springfield) and Piña Locas (3211 S. Campbell Ave., Springfield) are two spots that offer something a little different—something bright and colorful and packed with flavor. The menus at these spots feature fun Mexican street snacks in the form of elote (on the cob and rolled in spicy Cheetos at La Tropical Snacks, or in a cup with all the fixings at Piñas Locas), fresh pineapples topped with sweet and spicy fruit and candy, and ramen birria (hot and spicy ramen with juicy birria meat). Or opt for a drink, like the mangonada, a sweet-spicy-tart combo of mango smoothie, chamoy, cubed mango and tamarind candy. It might not feel like a trip to Mexico, exactly, but it’s a tasty foray into Mexican street eats.
