Cliffside Kitsch at Undercliff Grill & Bar

When we think of restaurants that incorporate Ozarks landscapes into the dining experience, we usually think of spots with great patios for fresh air and al fresco meals—maybe with a great view. But at Undercliff Grill & Bar (6385 Old Highway 71, Joplin), you dine in a building that’s actually built directly into the landscape and is literally under a cliff. The spot has been in use since the mid-1800s, once as a general store and now as Undercliff Grill & Bar. On a menu filled with home cooking options like burgers, prime rib specials and classic breakfast combos, it’s the Boomtown Fried Chicken entree that caught our eye. We’re dying to dig into some crispy bird while we take in the atmosphere in this unique spot.
