Something’s Afoot in Branson

The same crew behind Gettin' Basted and Downing Street Pour House is bringing a new sandwich shop to Branson! Named Mythical ‘Wich, it’s promising to offer not-your-ordinary subs. “Our concept is big, over-the-top, fun sandwiches,” says owner Brad Leighninger. “True to our BBQ roots, we will be house-smoking our own pastrami, turkey and maybe even some dinosaur beef ribs for a sandwich.” You can expect some familiar classics from Gettin' Basted and Downing Street Pour House, along with a few new combinations. They plan on setting up shop at 111 E. Main Street in Branson in September. 🥪

Get a True Taste of France

Fact: We’re fans of anything Chef Roland Parny cooks or bakes. We’ve sure missed dishes like his beef bourguignon and scallops with mushrooms that he used to dish out at La Galette Berrichonne. However, we’re thankful that he’s still slinging out his perfectly flaky pastries at the Kindall Store (3499 State Hwy. Z, Fordland). But now for the main event we’re here to talk about—He’s hosting a five-course meal at the shop on August 19 at 6 p.m.! The cost is $125 per person, and there are still a few seats left. Snag your reservation by emailing rvines@kindallstore.com. 🇫🇷

A Lunch Packed With Love

Sadly, summer’s days are a bit numbered. If you have littles on break, we hope you get to soak in these last few slow days with them. Since many of you are already in back-to-school planning mode, we thought we’d make a list of some fun local ways to elevate your child’s lunch on the first day of school. Here are some ideas on what to pack to make your kiddo feel loved and nourished. 🍎

• Pay a visit to Bon Bon’s Candy House (2720 S Glenstone Ave.) and let your child pick out their very own assortment of gummies for a little midday treat.
• Get some deli meat that the entire family will want to pack in their lunch from Schuchmann Meat Company (multiple locations).
• Quality meat deserves quality bread. While you’re out running errands on the southside, swing by Neighbor's Mill Bakery & Café (1435 E. Independence St. #110) for some coveted Springfield Sourdough.
MaMa Jeans’ Magic Cookies (multiple locations) have all the sweet and good stuff in them that makes a cookie a cookie, but they also contain shredded carrots hidden inside. That means packing one is a great way to sneak some fiber and vitamin C into your child’s lunch.
• There are goodies galore at the Farmers Market of the Ozarks (2144 E. Republic Road), but one stand-out item for a packed lunch is the freeze-dried fruit from Fast and Forever Foods. Even the pickiest of eaters can’t resist this addicting snack.

Brush Up on Mixology

Let’s take a break from the premature back-to-school chatter and talk about a different kind of educational opportunity: 417 Cocktails’ monthly mixology class (211 S. Market Ave. #103). The next one is coming up on Tuesday, August 15 from 6:30–8 p.m. Tickets cost $39 per person and include all the tools and frills you’ll need to make two cocktails. Plus, you’ll get a mini cocktail kit to take home so you can stay sharp and put your new skills to the test. This class led by 417 Cocktails owner Mandi Fritz teaches the ins and outs of the art of a cocktail, including how to use bitters, add a smoked flavor, and create cocktail syrups.🍸
