House Ginger Soda from Skully's

With a bright note from the fresh lemon juice, this soda is a winner—even for a soda-hater like me.

Ginger ale is for stomachaches and airplane tray tables, and nobody can convince me otherwise. Yet for some reason, on a trip to Skully’s Food Truck (505 W. Commercial St., Springfield, 417-289-2021), I was compelled to give the House Ginger Soda a try. Maybe it was something about the food truck experience (I want to try everything!) or something about the Shroom N’ Fu ramen bowl I was eating (the rich broth made me want a refreshing beverage), but either way, I ordered it. The drink has a simple list of ingredients—water, ginger, sugar, lemon—but offers a surprising amount of flavor. The warm spiciness of the ginger was complemented by just the right amount of sugar. It’s pleasantly sweet, not sticky sweet. With a bright note from the fresh lemon juice, this soda is a winner—even for a soda-hater like me.
