After meeting on Bumble, they knew they would want to commemorate the app that brought them together in some way. They do this by setting bee plates on their head table and sewing bee charms into Alexa’s dress and Dustin’s tie.

As working professionals, both Alexa and Dustin struggled to find time to go out and meet new people. They each decided to give Bumble a try and see if it led to anything. When they first matched on the dating app, Alexa thought Dustin looked “too good to be true,” but after he extended their match so it wouldn’t expire, Alexa knew she had to see what he was all about. They began texting and shortly after, they met at Mudhouse and Alexa says, “The rest is history.” Each year, they still go back to the same spot at Mudhouse to celebrate the anniversary of their first date.

Dustin decided to surprise Alexa with a proposal during what she thought were just family photos that fall. Dustin had prearranged the surprise with the photographer, Alexa’s parents and her son. The moment didn’t seem right until the very end of the photos when Dustin had been on one knee for a previous pose, and he pulled the ring out of his pocket and said, “Can you hold this for me?”

Alexa was ecstatic and they began planning their August wedding. Alexa wanted her wedding to feel personal and intentional even if the guests didn’t notice all the details. To accomplish this, Alexa had her mother watercolor all her signage and she chose her brother to officiate the wedding. She also created signature cocktails for her and Dustin for the reception and gave coffee beans from Mudhouse as party favors to guests in honor of their first date location. The couple wanted to incorporate Bumble into their wedding day for bringing them together, so they had a bee charm sewn onto the back of Dustin’s tie and on the inside of Alexa’s dress. Because the couple’s original wedding date was canceled due to COVID-19, their second wedding with all their friends and family was very special to them. Alexa says, “We got the best of both worlds—a small, intimate backyard wedding and a big party!” The couple’s wedding hashtag perfectly sums up their special day, #ThanksForSwipingRight.
