May 27–May 29: Memorial Day Poppy Festival

Pa’s Posey Patch

Visit the gorgeous, expansive red poppy field near Cassville for some great summer photo ops, tasty food trucks, refreshments and even photo props and costumes. Consider this your chance to update your profile pic while enjoying the sunshine and some local snacks.

May 27: Native Plant Sale

Mother’s Brewing Company, 2–6 p.m.

The Missouri Prairie Foundation is bringing native wildflowers, grasses, shrubs and trees to Mother’s Brewing Company, so you can pop over to stock up on all the good stuff for your yard and garden. Plants will be on sale from Grass Roots Garden Center, Ozark Soul Native Plants, Gaylena’s Garden and Watershed Natives, and a percentage of sales benefit the conservation work of the Missouri Prairie Foundation.

May 26–27: Springfield Walking Tours

Downtown and Commercial Street

Join the History Museum on the Square for enlightening and entertaining walking tours of both downtown Springfield and Commercial Street, where you’ll learn interesting historical facts and visit significant spots in both neighborhoods. Commercial Street tours meet at Jefferson Avenue Footbridge, and Downtown Springfield tours meet at History Museum on the Square at 154 Park Central Square.

May 28: James River Kayak

Meet at Farmers Park, 9 a.m.–4 p.m

Kick off summer with a float trip down the James River with 37 North Expeditions. The six-mile float includes a leisurely pace, stops at gravel bars and plenty of opportunities to splash around in swimming holes. This is a great beginner float.

Through May 28: Missouri State University MFA Showcase

Springfield Art Museum, regular museum hours

This exhibition includes works from Master of Fine Arts candidates in Missouri State University’s MFA Visual Studies program.

June 2: Sertoma Grin Iron Classic

Parkview High School, 7:30 p.m.

This is the 22nd year for this annual all-star football game featuring almost 90 graduated seniors from local high schools going head to head to benefit the Tooth Truck mobile dental clinic.

June 2: First Friday Art Walk

Downtown Springfield

Get creative with your Friday night. Walk through downtown Springfield’s galleries, boutiques and restaurants to be immersed in the original, local art, featuring various mediums, music, nightlife and demonstrations.

June 4: The Masters of Silent Film

The Gillioz Theatre, 2 p.m.

This event presented by Peacherine Ragtime Society Orchestra features silent film on the big screen accompanied by live music and period-appropriate special effects. You’ll get to see works of Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Laurel & Hardy.
