About Camp Barnabas
Every summer, Camp Barnabas brings life-changing opportunities to 1,500 individuals with special needs and chronic illnesses and allows them to be participants, not observers, in the world around them. Campers are encouraged to try new things as they push the limits of what the outside world says is impossible.
Typical summer camp activities are adapted to meet each individual’s needs. Every camper may participate in recreational activities such as ziplining, boating, canoeing, fishing, camping, ropes course, riflery, archery and much more.
Camp Barnabas offers 14 customized sessions of week-long overnight camp at two locations (Purdy, Missouri and Shell Knob, Missouri) from June through August. Campers age of 7 and up are grouped based on diagnosis and Camp Barnabas has a 1:1 volunteer to camper ratio. There are nearly 250 staff members and over 2,500 volunteers, including medical professionals who are onsite to volunteer at the health facility.
Camp Barnabas goes beyond a week at summer camp. The Barnabas experience changes perspectives and redefines disability. Each and every day, campers are told YES you can. Yes, you can live a life full of purpose.
