More Schmear, Please

In the January issue of 417 Magazine, we wrote about the delicious (and super-easy-to-use) chocolate chip pancake mixes from Springfield-based Lindsay’s Kitchen. Now, they have some new goodies that we’re drooling over: homemade “Ozarks-style” bagels with cleverly flavored cream cheese schmears. The homemade cream cheese spreads come in lavender-blueberry, avocado and roasted garlic, and strawberry-basil. And we are dying to try them! And what’s an Ozarks-style bagel? Well, Lindsay’s Kitchen describes them as “soft like your grandma’s dinner rolls with a slightly crisp crust,” and they come in flavors like Finley Cinnamon Strudel, Route 66 Everything Bagel and Osage Jalapeño. You can pick them up at their booth at Farmers Market of the Ozarks.

Keto Down South

Springfieldians who love their sweets but are practicing a keto diet can find plenty of goodies at Delicieux Bakery. They’ve long offered a wide variety of baked goods, many of which are keto-friendly or Romanian (as the owners are from Romania). Now, the bakery has added a second location in Branson, this one with a brand new name: Transylvania Bakery Cafe. It’s located at 104 N. Commercial St. and offers a lineup of similar keto-friendly treats, as well as other specialties like tiramisu, whoopie pies, chocolate rolls and baklava.

ICYMI: Itty Bitty News Bites

• It’s Finally Open!: Last week we told you that the new 4 By 4 Brewing Company Fremont Hills location was about to open. Did you make it there for opening day last weekend? We did, and it was so awesome. Check out our Reel to see what it’s like.

• You Only Turn 21 Once: There’s a new bar called Shot Shack in downtown Springfield that’s located in the former Walnut Street home of now-defunct Izumi Hatake. What’s the new bar’s schtick? They specialize in shots and have a menu of more than 100 of them—many with names inspired by Springfield and famous folks who are from here. Where else can you throw back a Brad Pitt shot? Nowhere, that’s where.

• Caffeine Coming Soon: If you’re like us and have been waiting (a little impatiently) for the announced restaurant to open in Plaza Towers, you might be surprised to see that the dining news coming out of Plaza Towers this week is something a bit different: First up before the restaurant is Smooth Coffee, a brand new coffee shop opening up in the building. Renderings show a sunny space with big windows, a modern vibe and a spacious patio outside. We’ll keep you posted when we find out when this new spot will open.

• Sips & Sealife: Coming up this week is the next installment of the Sip & Sea food and drink sampling series. The event takes place at Wonders of Wildlife National Museum & Aquarium and features a chance to observe sea critters from around the world while you taste local beers, wines and spirits and munch on some tasty fare. There’s also live music and chats with the animal keepers—all after hours at the aquarium. The Friday, March 10 installment is from 7–10 p.m. and features Christine’s Vineyard, Pennington Wines, Shawnee Bluff Winery & Vineyard, Ty Iechyd Da Distillery and Missouri Ridge Distillery.
