As soon as Culture Counter (607 S. Pickwick Ave., Springfield, 417-720-1381) opened at Pickwick and Cherry in June, I was right there ready to try its homemade ice cream. It wasn’t just the treat itself that had me enamored. It was 50% ice cream, 25% anticipation (we’d been waiting so long for them to open!) and 25% nostalgia (that walk-up window seemed too sweet and quaint!). On my first visit, I ordered a scoop of mocha custard, which looked like chocolate but smelled like fresh coffee and tasted like heaven. It was rich and thick and supremely creamy. And if there’s a better way to satisfy your sweet tooth during a neighborhood stroll, I don’t know what it is.
